Join Portland Chapter as Shana Peschek, Executive Director of the Machinists Institute, reviews their programs and initiatives which provide cutting-edge worker training and development programs to help employers stay ahead of new technological advances, maintain a high-quality and skilled workforce, and promote skills transfer from tenured employees to those recently hired.

The Machinists Institute partners with employers across a broad spectrum of industries and offers training in occupations such as machining, tool making, industrial maintenance/robotics, heavy equipment/automotive technicians, quality assurance, electrical, mechanical, diesel power/chassis, hydraulics, refrigeration, and welding. They are working to diversify the workforce and expand the pool of qualified job candidates from underrepresented populations in the industry.

Shana will share experiences, resources, and tools she has identified and developed over 13 years supporting the manufacturing and construction trades. She will also discuss methods and opportunities to reduce bias in recruitment and hiring practices as well as related impacts on employee retention.
