PDX Chapter – Economist Dinner
March 21 @ 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm
The Portland chapter is excited to welcome Eric Fruits, PhD and President of Economics International Corporation, and Nick Webb, Director of Risk Management and Commodity Hedging at Ryerson, for a discussion of macroeconomic factors as well as conditions within the metal industry.
Nick Webb spent almost a decade as a commodity broker at Wells Fargo, Newedge, and Jefferies, where he structured trading and hedging solutions for miners, mills, distributors, end users, and even hedge funds. He also started the ferrous brokerage desks at all three firms before joining Ryerson to manage commodity, foreign exchange, and interest rate risks for both the company and its customers. Nick earned his BSBA in Finance from Ohio State with a minor in Economics.
Dr. Eric Fruits specializes in economics, finance, and statistics. He is an adjunct professor of business and economics at Portland State University, an expert witness, and is affiliated with several nonprofit public policy research institutes. Eric has testified in matters involving antitrust, securities fraud and market manipulation, lost profits, and business valuation in state and federal courts as well as an international tribunal.
Together, Nick and Eric will provide insight into challenges the metal industry faces as we reach the end of the first quarter of 2024 and what indicators point to for the remainder of the year.
Appetizer Sponsor: $300 (Logo on appetizer trays, program/powerpoint recognition, verbal recognition during dinner)
