The Portland Chapter is excited to announce that Michael Fiore, President of Fought & Co. and REFA Steel Erection, Inc., will be our Industry Dinner speaker this year! 

Michael moved to the West Coast 10 years ago and turned around Oregon Feralloy Partners, a joint venture steel processing plant owned by Evraz Steel and Reliance Steel and Aluminum. This business is a temper mill cut-to-length line located on the Evraz campus – it was also the first ‘steel’ exposure that he had after a working career steeped in management, risk abatement, and business development.

As the GM/Ops Manager of that project, Michael reported to a JV Board which allowed him to leverage CAPEX, team building, and market analysis to build a strong outcome for all of the stakeholders – He did this for 6 years. After the 232 tariff act changed the dynamics of the JV business (and the steel marketplace), He left to become the GM at Farwest’s Vancouver facility. He was there for a limited time before starting two companies with a partner/friend.

Currently, Michael is the President of Fought & Co. and REFA Erection Inc. They are a 75-year-old business in the midst of a transition and facility upgrade. They are part of the Shoestring Valley Holding portfolio of companies.

The bulk of his career has been spent building and selling several businesses – Michael has a passion for building strong and effective teams. Most recently, he stood up and sold The Operations Group (industrial repair – focusing on leveling) and The Hydraulics Group, here in the PDX metro area. Prior to moving to the region from the east coast, he had started 2 other businesses that were sold in 2014.

Michael’s education is in engineering and business administration, and he enjoys managing and deploying capital to build (and rebuild) teams so that people can thrive. That’s why he was initially interested in this opportunity. Caring for people is important to Michael and he sees the intersection between health, wellness, and finance as a way to build our community and support a strong regional steel economy.
