Join us for a historical tour of Sloss Furnace followed by lunch with guest speaker Ty Malugani. Ty serves as the Deputy Director and Historian at Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark. He began at Sloss Furnaces as an intern in 2011 while earning his Bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He interned again at Sloss in 2014 while earning his Master’s degree in History, also from UAB. He specialized in post-Civil War Southern history, focusing on urban and industrial growth. Over his time with Sloss, Ty has presented on various topics relating to Birmingham and industrial history including at the Society for Industrial Archaeology Annual Conference, Southeastern Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society, and the Neighborhoods USA Conference. Ty grew up in Fairhope, Alabama, near the Gulf Coast and moved to Birmingham in 2009 to attend UAB.
