Jody Pitts got her introduction to the metals industry when she joined AT&T in sales and marketing. Her first assignment was in the primary metals market and her first customer was Republic Steel. Over her 9-year career, she handled mills, service centers, iron ore companies and aerospace where she consistently placed in the top 10% of AT&T’s salespeople, receiving numerous commendations and awards.
Following her successful career in sales with AT&T, Jody joined Main Steel, a North American independent toll processor in 1987 as Marketing Manager. Her first assignment for Main was to establish a telemarketing center to assist in the sales efforts for their nine plants, where first year sales reached $2M. Jody was then given the added responsibility of marketing for Main Tape, a manufacturer of protective masking film. She was promoted to Director of Marketing for both companies in 1989 and continued her dual positions. In this job, she was responsible for creation of advertisements, brochures and other marketing materials as well as handling trade marks applications. Jody also instituted the Main Event, a quarterly newsletter for Main Steel, which continues to this day. In May of 1996, Jody was named Vice President of Marketing for both companies until 1999. In her current position of Vice President, Jody is responsible for the Tape Products group within Main Steel, which accounts for 25% of the company’s sales and still oversees the creative side of the business. She holds a position on Main Steel’s Steering Committee as well serving as the company’s liaison for the Prime Advantage Buying Consortium. Jody was awarded the prestigious Presidents Award from Prime Advantage in 2006, the first supplier in the organization’s 10 year history to receive the award.
Since 1988, Jody also has served in a number of roles with The Association of Women in the Metals Industry (AWMI). Jody joined the New York Chapter of AWMI as the Chapter’s Secretary, a position she held for 3 years. She was then elected Chapter President and also served as 1992 National Conference Chair. During her time on the New York board, she received the Edna Blum Award for outstanding achievement within the NY AWMI Chapter. In 1993, Jody took on the Regional Director position for the Northeast Region. In 1994, she was elected National Secretary; 1995 National Vice President; 1996 All Member Conference Chair. In 1997, Jody was elected President of AWMI. She was named AWMI Member of the Year for 1998. Jody served as International Past President in 1999-2000. She is no longer an active Board Member for AWMI, but serves as a mentor or in an advisory capacity when needed. Jody is currently a board member of the MSCI New York Chapter’s as Vice President of Membership.
