Chris graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering in 1986, with a class of 30 metallurgists, including 4 women. Clearly this was a time when this Metallurgy was a more common major than it is today! Later, Chris also earned a Master of Administrative Science degree from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
Chris began her career at the Armco Stainless bar, rod and wire plant in Baltimore, working as a metallurgist in the Vacuum Remelting shop, and later the melt shop. Chris joined Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows Point in 1989 to work in the Quality Assurance department. She had the good fortune to work in almost every part of the carbon flat roll steel mill: Steelmaking (BOF/Caster); Hot Rolling; Cold Rolling; Coated Products (galvanize and Galvalume). She also did some product technical service work on the road, as well as quality management with some exposure to customer service and production planning.
After nearly 21 years at Sparrows Point – through Bethelehem Steel’s bankruptcy in 2003, the subsequent purchases by ISG, Arcelor Mittal, and Severstal, Chris had the opportunity to try her hand at Sales. She currently works for ThyssenKrupp Steel USA as an Account Manager. She works out of her home in Baltimore and her territory ranges from North Carolina to New England to Pittsburgh. Chris very much enjoys combining her technical background with the Sales side of the business.
Chris is a fairly new member of AWMI and belongs to the Baltimore chapter.
